There’s no higher compliment for a builder than repeat business. We rebuilt a large back deck for these good folks on Butternut Lane in Wintergreen in 2019, and now they’re ready to really go big with an 860 square foot addition out front. The new space will have the look and feel of an authentic mountain chalet, including a striking, stone-covered foyer, double-sided fireplace, and exquisite timber details. We’re aiming to finish this project before Christmas 2024, so follow along for all the updates!

Remodels always require a step back before you can move forward. There was a lot of site prep to do ahead of time to get ready for not only the new front of the home, but also a significant upgrade to the driveway and parking space.

The first few pictures are a showcase of the back deck we did previously, followed by the beginning of the new addition. Enjoy!

A distinct feature of a luxury mountain chalet is a double-stacked deck, complete with million dollar view.

The site is cleared and the old front of the house is removed, so it’s time to build something new. As always, the first steps involve concrete. With the slope of the site, design of the addition, and tying in with the existing house, this was definitely one of our more intricate foundations to date.

Once footers are poured and block laid, we framed the floor and sent up the exterior walls. The most common word used to describe the striking new roof lines was “castle”.
